Ref: N822 SGX SMC Heritage are proud to present this incredible 1995 Porsche 911 993 Restomod. The SMC Heritage collection is a celebration of the best of the best of modern classics whereas SMC Automotive’s forte is very much modification. Sometimes the best of both of these worlds meet, and that is SMC Atelier. As long established “Porsche guys” we are proud to put the SMC Atelier label on this incredible 993. The terms Restomod and OEM Plus are often used to describe vehicles but seldom are they more appropriate. Built at no expense spared by a renowned Porsche restoration specialist to showcase their work with only the very best and rarest parts with incredible show stopping attention to detail. Porsche 993 Background : The Porsche 993 is the last of its kind, the pinnacle of aircooled design and with just a 4 year production run it is the bridge from classic to modern 911’s. As such it has quite rightly won its place in the hearts and garages of enthusiasts and investors alike. They are modern enough to make the early cars and even the 964 seem archaic yet the proximity to the upright windscreen, the compact dimensions and the old-school interior and switchgear just ooze retro charm. The air-cooled motor has so much character compared to its water-cooled replacements, whirring and purring in its unique style. Provenance (the base car): When putting your heart and soul and significant investment into a project it makes absolute sense to start with the very best base you can find Consequently a clean, low mileage, solid example with tons of history and previous maintenance was found for the project, crucially this car was also fully hpi clear with no stories. Supplied new in September 1995 by Official Porsche Centre Isaac Agnew (Mallusk) Ltd of Northern Ireland as an official UK C16 car. The original stamped service book and driver’s manual is still present alongside a folder full of old MOTs and invoices for maintenance and repair from both OPC’s and noted specialists. With well documented ownership and servicing plus a huge array of invoices for maintenance it really was a lovely useable example and therefore the perfect base for the next stage of its life. We have a PDF file of all the servicing dates etc on file for interested parties. Exterior: Built to showcase their skills using the haloed Sport Classic as their muse. Cost was no object and the attention to detail is simply superb. The bodywork was stripped to bare metal, every mm of the shell and body was painstakingly inspected and prepared before an all steel wide body was fabricated by hand along with the signature double bubble aero roof. Custom RS bumpers and a ducktail complete the look. Once the bodywork was 100 percent a flawless respray was undertaken in Porsche PTS Meissen blue. Meissen Blue is a heritage colour that predates Gulf Blue and goes back over 60 years to the 356 era. A standard colour offering in 1957, the colour was not often used after the 50s but was revived by Porsche in 2007 becoming available as a Paint to Sample colour. Meissen Blue is slightly greyer than Gulf Blue and consequently the grey and orange PORSCHE script works superbly in this context. To complete the Sport Classic brief there could only be one style of alloy wheel so a beautiful satin finished set of staggered Fuchs were added. Needless to say, the results are stunning. It is jaw dropping from every angle. At first glance you know its something special with those the wide haunches and that perfect stance. Then you look closer, the aero roof catches the eye, the black LED headlights, custom bumpers and the ducktail draw you in further, maybe you will be drawn to the jewel like exhaust or the matt black anodised grills, now you start to see further again with subtle touches like the recessed bonnet badge or the custom mirror mounted repeaters. All lights, badges and trims including the heckblende are present, correct and free from fading, damage or discoloration. Interior: The interior is sublime retro perfection. The whole interior is as new and finished in the finest materials. The RS dash is trimmed in black nappa leather with a contrast stitch and basketweave and houses custom dials including a body colour rev counter, bespoke switchgear and pleasingly a superb retro looking genuine Porsche Classic head unit with modern functionality including discreet USBs linked to a subtle black anodised high end audio system. The Recaro hard back seats are painted in body colour and then trimmed in stunning nappa and basket weave tan leather. The seat backs and pulls are also trimmed to match alongside the door panels and pulls. The parcel shelf is trimmed in black fine leather to match the dash and the visors whereas the custom headliner is finished in perforated black leather. The carpets are all new and protected by stunning retro coco mats. The boot area is also newly trimmed to match. The final finishing touches include a nappa leather trimmed Momo wheel with body colour stripe at 12 o clock, body coloured sill covers, body coloured centre console and a handmade polished wood gear selector. Under the hood: The engine bay is equally impressive having been beautifully detailed with a carbon intake, body coloured fan and black anodising. On the Road: Perhaps unsparingly given the huge expenditure and impeccable upkeep it drives with a time warp tautness you that you could only find with a low mileage perfectly maintained example. With a 0-60 in 5.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 172mph the 993 is certainly no slouch but it can still be driven with vigour on public roads. However, where the 993 truly stands proud from the rest of its peers and modern rivals is on the road. It offers a superb sense of occasion and a visceral driving experience that many more modern and often vastly more powerful cars simply cannot replicate. The flat six is turbine smooth and surprisingly quiet at low revs but push the floor hinged throttle a little further and it comes alive as the aircooled engine barks into life and echoes around you. Overview: With less than 1000 miles covered since completion this really is just “run in” and offers a fantastic route in to restomod modern classic ownership as either a low mileage depreciation proof daily driver, a weekend toy to polish, show and enjoy or perhaps most likely a stunning addition to a collection. This incredible vehicle offers a best of both worlds solution to running a classic Porsche, adding a modern twist to classic looks without the Singer or Gunther Werks price tag. To replicate this vehicle today could well see a bill for north of £200,000 including the donor car and at least a 2year wait. .
